Abers Mains Supply

Water

village-pump-op

This may seem to be an odd subject for a web page but the service’s come late to Aber the mains water was not connected till the 1950’s before it was supplied from tanks up in the hills and piped to 3 taps around the village some of the the house’s had water earlier than other’s because the occupant’s worked for Penrhyn estates and a least one enterprising young man tapped into the water pipe when he shouldn’t. The tank for this supply is up by the old quarry and the over flow can still be seen running though the village and down to the river

Electricity

As early as 1912 Llanfairfechan Council were debating how to supply electricity to their village, so Aber would also be looking at doing so at about the same time . The first world war got in the way of it coming sooner but by 1927 it had arrived in Llanfairfechan.
When Freddy and Hilda Taylor went to buy the Cafe Royal 1936 hilda was horrified to find that it had no electricity. but by 1937 as we can tell from a bill for work to the alms houses from an electricity company it had arrived

Gas

Gas came from the Llanfairfechan and Aber Gas works at the back of Maddrin Farm
